Gainsharing
A client needed more knowledge about some different financial-based forms of remuneration we talked about: Gainsharing.
It might be good to have a definition here: Employees are financially rewarded based on the collective performance of the organisation or a specific department through gainsharing, a workplace incentive program. Unlike traditional profit-sharing, which distributes a portion of overall profits to employees, gain-sharing typically focuses on improvements in productivity, efficiency, cost reduction, or other performance metrics. When employees meet or exceed certain predetermined goals or targets, they are rewarded with bonuses or incentives, which fosters teamwork and collaboration towards common objectives. Gainsharing aims to align employee interests with organisational goals and foster a culture of continuous improvement and shared success.

Employers that let vendors be the primary decision-makers when it comes to talent risk amassing "talent clones" instead of identifying a "kaleidoscope of talent", an academic says.

In her new book Rethinking Talent Decisions, University of Wollongong School of Business academic Dr Sharna Wiblen says the former question of *which* HR or talent management system to use has become a question of *how many*.

"When I ask HR and senior executives how many systems they use to support talent decisions, I find that organisations have moved beyond the decision between proprietary and vendor-designed systems. Instead, they have entered a complex situation where they maintain multiple vendor systems," Wiblen writes, noting she encountered one Australian professional services firm that used a "staggering" 80 different HR technologies to capture, store and analyse its data...

Talent management leaders are under such pressure to deliver solutions quickly that many aren't properly identifying problems first, but there is a way to conduct root cause diagnosis quickly and simply, an expert says.

The fact talent is now a top priority for CEOs means leaders in the field are getting more C-suite attention, but also receiving less patience, says Jasleen Kaur, a senior principal in Gartner's HR research and advisory practice.

"Gone are the times when we could turn to our CEO and say, let me take this back, do a little digging, and get back to you," she told Gartner's recent ReimagineHR conference.

"By the time we're done with the probing [and] solution design, we've missed our boat; the CEO attention is gone..."

You’ve had it with working out of spreadsheets and forms. You’re ready for a change, but you don’t know how to make sure you pick an employee management platform that’s the best bang for your buck.

Or maybe you’ve already deployed a tool and aren’t seeing the ROI you were promised.

Either way, here’s your guide to getting more out of your employee engagement platform—and making sure you have the right one.

Why do employee engagement platforms matter?

First, because employee engagement matters. According to Bain & Co., engaged employees are 44% more productive than workers who only describe themselves as “satisfied,” and inspired employees are 125% more productive. Gallup research also shows that highly engaged teams see a 43% reduction in turnover. Employee engagement helps teams get more done and organizations keep their high performers.

Second, employee engagement platforms like 15Five automate and centralize just about every task involved in these essential processes.

Artificial Intelligence

MIT News - Artificial intelligence

For nearly a decade, a team of MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) researchers have been seeking to uncover why certain images persist in a people's minds, while many others fade. To do this, they set out to map the spatio-temporal brain dynamics involved in recognizing a visual image. And now for the first time, scientists harnessed the combined strengths of magnetoencephalography (MEG), which captures the timing of brain activity, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), which identifies active brain regions, to precisely determine when and where the brain processes a memorable image.

Their open-access study, published this month in PLOS Biology, used 78 pairs of images matched for the same concept but differing in their memorability scores — one was highly memorable and the other was easy to forget. These images were shown to 15 subjects, with scenes of skateboarding, animals in various environments,

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has gained significant momentum with organizations actively exploring its potential applications. As successful proof-of-concepts transition into production, organizations are increasingly in need of enterprise scalable solutions. However, to unlock the long-term success and viability of these AI-powered solutions, it is crucial to align them with well-established architectural principles.
The AWS Well-Architected Framework provides best practices and guidelines for designing and operating reliable, secure, efficient, and cost-effective systems in the cloud. Aligning generative AI applications with this framework is essential for several reasons, including providing scalability, maintaining security and privacy, achieving reliability, optimizing costs, and streamlining operations. Embracing these principles is critical for organizations seeking to use the power of generative AI and drive innovation.
This post explores the new enterprise-grade features for Knowledge Bases on Amazon Bedrock and how they align with the AWS Well-Architected Framework. With Knowledge Bases for Amazon Bedrock,

Health-monitoring apps can help people manage chronic diseases or stay on track with fitness goals, using nothing more than a smartphone. However, these apps can be slow and energy-inefficient because the vast machine-learning models that power them must be shuttled between a smartphone and a central memory server.

Engineers often speed things up using hardware that reduces the need to move so much data back and forth. While these machine-learning accelerators can streamline computation, they are susceptible to attackers who can steal secret information.

To reduce this vulnerability, researchers from MIT and the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab created a machine-learning accelerator that is resistant to the two most common types of attacks. Their chip can keep a user’s health records, financial information, or other sensitive data private while still enabling huge AI models to run efficiently on devices.

The team developed several optimizations that enable strong security while

Study from University of California, Irvine and Brigham and Women’s Hospital shows prison mortality rate spiked at least 50%When the Covid-19 pandemic began, it wasn’t hard to predict that incarcerated people would be at higher risk. Many prisons and jails are crowded, dirty places with inconsistent access to healthcare – breeding grounds for the highly infectious virus. But the job of documenting the deaths has fallen to a patchwork of research groups and reporters. Now, a national study from one of these collaborations, between the University of California, Irvine and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, shows that at the peak of the pandemic in 2020, people inside prisons died almost three-and-a-half times more frequently than the free population.
