Trump Just Announced That Andrea Lucas Will Lead the EEOC. Here’s What That Could Mean for Your Workplace

Improve Your HR

President Trump has appointed Andrea Lucas (no relation of mine, I swear) to head the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC). She has served on the committee since 2020, when she was appointed by President Trump.
Lucas has vowed to make big changes at the agency, which has a huge impact on the workplace when it comes to civil rights. For example, the EEOC is tasked with enforcing laws such as:

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII)
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA)
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA)
Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)
Sections 102 and 103 of the Civil Rights Act of 1991 (jury trials in discrimination cases)
Sections 501 and 505 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (disability protection for federal jobs)
The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA)
Pregnant Workers Fairness Act

In other words, every time you talk about discrimination in the workplace or write a policy to comply with one of those laws, the EEOC overlooks it all. And things are about to change.
