In the working world, most successful ventures are group projects. No car is manufactured by a single person, no airplane is built and flown by one person, and no surgery is performed by a single scalpel-wielding doctor (contrary to what you may see on TV dramas). It’s all group work.
If the goal of education is to educate young people so they can become productive members of society, then wouldn’t group projects be essential? This was certainly something my teachers said to me when I was in school. So why would Katharine Birbalsingh, headmistress of London’s highly rated Michaela Community School, tweet, “We never do group work at Michaela”?
