It’s 2025, and many companies are still hiring on vibes—gut instincts and subjective impressions of job applicants—rather than objective skills assessments. Of all the ways to fill vacant positions, this is probably the worst. But according to a new study by Textio, a Seattle-based maker of recruiting and feedback software, this is still how many hiring managers make their decisions.
Textio evaluated interview assessments for about 4,000 candidates after 10,377 interviews to compile Interview Feedback in 2025: Vibe Hiring, Personality Preferences, and Candidate Expectations. They wanted to see what the interviewers said about these job applicants, and the responses revealed some surprising information.
